Archie

Archie sang his songs to me

Taught me about my country.

Gave me an indigenous perspective

On how the white man chooses to live.

Although we've had a Sorry Day

We still take their children away.

Archie sang of the best and the worst,

Love songs with a protest verse.

He sang of how the downtrodden cope,

Songs of redemption, songs of hope.

He sang of how we took his land,

While offering us his peaceful hand.

We all knew he did not lie,

But we could not tell him why

He and his people suffered as they do.

He didn't blame me or you.

Some still think that it's absurd

That our First Peoples struggle to be heard.

Pretty soon we'll have a choice,

Will we grant them their voice?

Thank you, Archie, for singing to me.

There's so much you helped me to see.

I saw the pain and love on your face.

You have made our country a better place.
