COVID 19 (15/09/2020)

Where has my world of 60 years gone?

The streets and bars have been cleared of the gaggling throng

And when I venture out, I have my mask on.

What a different world I gaze upon.

We are washing our hands continuously

Sanitising, sterilising, and scrubbing constantly.

Hygienic vigilance can almost guarantee

Our continual existence virus free!

We look with caution to those who cough and wheeze

And fear with dread anyone who may sneeze.

We live in fear of this dreaded disease

As we enter the season of the hay-fever sneeze.

So we stand 2 meters apart there are crosses on the floor.

Cleaners constantly polish the handles of doors,

Wash down lift buttons, and toilet walls

As we move about trying no to touch anything at all.

We listen for the infection rate on radio and TV

And hope there are no hotspots flaring up near me.

The death toll rises we are sorry to see.

How could this happen in the 21st century?

Too keep us safe they have locked us down

Closing offices, shops, restaurants, and bars all across town.

Now there is hardly anyone to be found.

The impact on mental health and the economy is deeply profound.

We have no choice but to ride the virus out.

Herd immunity is what some say it is all about,

Awaiting a vaccine with some considerable clout.

Freedom will come when there is no doubt.

Close state borders, you cannot venture far.

Home school your kids and lock up Grandma.

The only safe place is at home or in your car.

Meeting teams through the screen and viewing the world from afar.

Redefine what is fun and what is play,

Create a bubble which keeps some friends and family away.

In your lockdown area you need to stay

Cause COVID 19 is not going away!
