The Kestrels

The Kestrels don’t hover over the headland anymore.

We would go there together and celebrate that Kestrel.

After you were gone there was a pair

And I knew who they were.

The headland is full now.

Full of joggers, fast walkers, families, prams, and selfie takers.

Quiet and solitude left with the Kestrels

Beauty and memories remain.

I remember how you wore your wedding dress all night

Even to the hotel, ‘cause you knew you would never wear it again

And how we smiled till our faces hurt.
