It Never Goes Away

They come to tell you,

Sincerely tell you,

That it will all be OK.

They try and comfort you,

So they tell you,

That everything will be alright.

Some will tell you,

Sagely tell you,

That time will heal all wounds.

Well, I am here to tell you,

To gently tell you,

That it isn’t OK!

I need to tell you

That nothing eases the pain!

Time will distance you,

It will distance you,

But the pain never goes away.

Sadness ebbs and flows,

Lying under the surface,

Lapping at the edge.

And any time it wants,

Yes, anytime it likes,

It bubbles over.

It bubbles over,

It tips you over

The edge.

This is the way it is.

No matter how many pats on the back.

No matter what they say.

It never goes away.
