Daisy

She helped to define us all

With that broad Glaswegian drawl,

Black pudding, ‘Bottled in Scotland’, and Hogmanae.

Scotland personified in her own little way.

Salt over the shoulder, silver across the palm,

Age old superstitions with smile and charm.

She walked kilometers into town

For a shop and a bit of a wander around.

Stories which left the facts behind

A jig and a dance, kick up the heels in time.

A toot of the mouth organ, a tap of the toe

“Scotland the Brave” – “I Belong to Glasgow”.

She belonged to us and we to her

A frown and scorn if we to err.

Clickerty clack of the crochet hooks

Flicking the pages, reading a multitude of books.

A wee totie of Sherry – a wee dram of Scotch

The heartfelt generosity of the Scots.

Barely 4 ft 8 tall -

She helped define us all.
