The Moments
There are moments when the reality of life presses hard against us.
When our path to the future disappears and there seems to be no purpose or vision to light the way.
These are the moments when we stare into the darkness and reach deep inside ourselves for energy and resolve.
Where we spend what seems like hours pondering, but never deciding to act.
These are the moments when an offer of help echoes through the caverns of our mind
And appears like a dim beacon in the distance.
Tears cut ravines down cheeks as sobs reverberate,
Through bodies, clearing the emotion and settling the mind.
These are the moments when loneliness chills the spine.
All alone with friends, in a crowd, in the dark of night.
These are the moments when memory escapes the boundaries of the mind
And run away forever, never to return.
These are the moments when you stare at yourself for an untold time wondering where your mind went.
Did it return with the light, with the happiness, with companionship?
These are the moments of learning to manage the sorrow and pain.
Never denying its existence.
Accepting it will never leave,
Managing to stay above the rising tide of sorrow and anxiety.
Accepting that nothing has ever been the same,
And that nothing will ever be the same again.
